Letter: Shaheen puts N.H. citizens first
To the Editor:
In his recent letter to the Herald, longtime Republican Al Horvath says he’s ready for a change of senators in New Hampshire. Well, he may be willing to trade our hard-working Sen. Jeanne Shaheen for a do-nothing wannabe from Massachusetts, but the rest of us are not. We are grateful for the hard work Sen. Shaheen has done for the people of this state for the past 20years. She has always put the well-being of New Hampshire citizens first.
As governor, Shaheen helped make kindergarten available to all the children of the state, expanded Route 101, brought 67,000 new jobs to the state, and she fought to bring the CHIP (Children’s Health Improvement program) program to New Hampshire’s children.
As our senator, Shaheen has continued to fight for us. Her work to keep the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard open has saved hundreds of New Hampshire jobs. She has fought for equal pay for equal work and to protect women’s health-care decisions.
She regularly works across the aisle to craft bi-partisan legislation that will benefit all of us. Her work with Republican Sen. Rob Portman on the Shaheen-Portman Bill to increase energy efficiency is just one example.
Mr. Horvath neglects to mention any specifics of Sen. Shaheen’s long years of service that he objects to. He just says he disagrees with her. Well, on Election Day, I think he’ll find that most New Hampshire voters disagree with him and support her. Let’s keep Jeanne Shaheen working for us.
