Voters Cross Party Lines to Take New Hampshire in a New Direction
(Manchester, NH) – Today, former Governor and current candidate for US Senate Jeanne Shaheen held a conference call with reporters to introduce the charter members of Republicans for Shaheen, a group of New Hampshire voters supporting Jeanne Shaheen because they believe we need a new direction and a new Senator in Washington.
"This election is about the choice between more of the same old policies that have gotten us where we are today or a new direction that will get this economy working again for middle class families," Shaheen said. "When I was Governor, I worked with a Republican legislature to find real solutions for New Hampshire families. I worked across the aisle and because of it, we were able to expand health care and access to kindergarten for children. We were able to strengthen the economy, which led to the creation of 66,000 new jobs in New Hampshire.
"That's the kind of commonsense leadership we need in Washington. We need a Senator who will stand up for New Hampshire's needs, not a Senator who votes 90 percent of the time with a President whose policies have devastated our economy."
Shaheen was joined on the conference call by the co-chairs of Republicans for Shaheen, Rick Russman and Steve Walter.
"This is a critical election we are facing this fall," said Russman, a former state senator. "I'm supporting Jeanne Shaheen because she will work to get our economy moving again. She kept our tax burden the lowest in the nation. And she worked across the aisle to do it. We need a new direction in Washington this fall and that is why I'm proud to support Jeanne Shaheen for Senate."
"For too long, John Sununu and George Bush have used their positions in Washington to put extreme ideologies ahead of science and common sense," Walter said. "I'm proud to be a Republican for Shaheen because she will bring new hope to millions of American families by investing in and encouraging the stem cell research that holds so much promise for new treatments and cures. Jeanne Shaheen has the courage and leadership to take our country in a new direction and that's why I'm proud to support her candidacy for the Senate."
The Republicans for Shaheen will be an active part of Shaheen's campaign, working to spread her message of change around the state as they attend campaign events, make phone calls, knock on doors and help organize their friends and family to turn out and vote on November 4th.
