(Manchester, NH)— Former Governor and current US Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen issued the following statement today in response to the news that Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy and Merrill Lynch has agreed to be sold to Bank of America:
"The deepening crisis in financial markets underscores the need for more transparency, oversight and accountability on Wall Street. We cannot afford to continue using taxpayers' money to bail out mismanaged Wall Street investment banks. To protect average Americans' life savings and to maintain the United States leadership in the global economy, we need reform on Wall Street and in Washington."
