Wednesday October 29, 2008
(Manchester, NH) – Jeanne Shaheen issued the following statement calling on Alaska Senator Ted Stevens to resign following his conviction on seven felony corruption charges:
"American families deserve leaders who are honest. Senator Stevens is the prime example of a Washington culture that puts the special interests first at the expense of the taxpayers. We need a new direction in Washington and that means we must restore confidence in American families that their leaders are working for them, not doing corrupt favors for special interests. Ted Stevens has betrayed the trust of the American people and he should resign from the Senate immediately."
