Visits Shift Change at UPS, Addresses Employees at Measured Progress

(Manchester, NH) —Today, former Governor and current candidate for U.S. Senate Jeanne Shaheen kicked off her five-day Barnstorm for a New Direction with voters in Dover, visiting workers at a shift change at UPS and addressing workers at Measured Progress.  Shaheen discussed her proposals for a new direction in Washington and what's at stake in Tuesday's election.

"Today we are just four days from Election Day," Shaheen said.  "We are four days from turning the page on failed economic policies that have hurt New Hampshire families and small businesses.  We are four days from turning the page on a broken health care system that makes health care unaffordable for so many.  We are four days away from turning the page on an energy policy that has made us dependent on foreign oil.  We are four days away from a new direction.

"I have been traveling across New Hampshire for the past year, talking to voters and hearing about their concerns.  And everywhere I go, I hear the same frustration: small businesses and families are struggling and Washington just doesn't get it. Health care and college are increasingly unaffordable. Wages are stagnant. Home values are dropping. Gas prices are unbearably high.  People are scared about how high heating fuel costs will be this winter.  And our debt and deficit are soaring. But we don't have to stand for it.  We can tackle these challenges head on and we can make a difference.

"We are facing big challenges, but I have no doubt that America is up to the task.  In just six days, we have the chance to stand up and demand a new course for our country.  We have the chance to turn the page on the last 8 years of failed economic policies that put special interests first and middle class families last.  We have a chance to change the way Washington works -- to work together again to make real progress for New Hampshire families again.  The new direction we've been waiting for is right around the corner."
