Jeanne Shaheen’s efforts to stop Wall Street firms from ripping off Granite Staters with surprise medical bills is the focus of her campaign’s newest television ad. In the ad, Kathy Cavallaro from Rye, NH, shares how she was hit with an unexpected $5,000 bill after undergoing emergency surgery in January 2019.

Cavallaro and her husband had health insurance but, because her surgeons were out-of-network, she got a surprise bill. Concerned about the cost of this bill and how she and her husband would be able to afford to pay it, Cavallaro contacted Senator Shaheen, who helped lower the cost of the bill and support her and her family.

Shaheen has been a leader in the fight to reduce health care costs in the Senate. Working with Republicans and Democrats, Shaheen has helped lead legislation to stop surprise medical bills.
