Manchester, N.H. — Today, the American Federation of Teachers – New Hampshire (AFT-NH) endorsed U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen for re-election, highlighting her support for educators and students across New Hampshire, and especially during the COVID-19 crisis. When the Trump administration’s allies in the Senate tried to pass a COVID-19 relief bill without emergency education support funding, Jeanne fought for and helped deliver more than $80 million to New Hampshire to ensure our schools, teachers and students have the resources they need. AFT-NH represents 3,600 educators in communities across New Hampshire.

“New Hampshire teachers dedicate their lives to making a difference for our children and students, and I am grateful to have AFT-NH standing with me in my re-election campaign,” said Senator Shaheen. “I have always worked to support our students and teachers and that’s especially true now during coronavirus, as our teachers face immense challenges in their efforts to support children and students across New Hampshire. I am honored to have their support, and I will continue to work across the aisle to ensure that our public schools and teachers have the resources they need to educate our kids.”

“AFT-NH is proud to endorse Senator Shaheen for re-election to the Senate,” said AFT-NH President Doug Ley. “Senator Shaheen is a stalwart advocate for students, educators and working people across New Hampshire, standing strong on issues like providing COVID-19 assistance to those unable to work during the pandemic, expanding access to job training, and making sure our front-line workers have the protections they need during the pandemic. In the Senate, she has fought to protect public education funding and, as Governor, she expanded kindergarten to tens of thousands of children. As a union primarily composed of educators, we are proud of the work done by Senator Shaheen to promote public education in New Hampshire and across the entire nation. Senator Shaheen takes the time to reach out and listen to our members and educators in general, and we are proud to call her our Senator.”

A former high school teacher, Jeanne Shaheen believes that education is the key to a good job and financial security. She has consistently worked across the aisle to support students and teachers, and to strengthen STEM education so New Hampshire workers have the skills they need for jobs in emerging industries. As Governor, she made kindergarten a reality for tens of thousands of children and, in the Senate, she helped pass a law to expand federal support for early childhood education.

AFT-New Hampshire represents 3,600 educators in communities across New Hampshire, from the Seacoast to Nashua, to Keene and northward to Campton. Members are primarily educators and educational support staff, and also include municipal and town employees, law enforcement, and higher education employees.
