Manchester, N.H. — The Shaheen campaign’s first radio ad focuses on Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s leadership in helping negotiate small business funding for more than 24,000 New Hampshire small businesses during coronavirus. In the ad, small business owners thank Shaheen for leading the bipartisan negotiations that made a difference for thousands of businesses and their employees during the pandemic.

The 60-second ad features Nicole Carrier of Throwback Brewery in North Hampton and Dan Chartrand of Water Street Bookstore in Exeter who were both able to keep their doors open and their employees on the payroll thanks to the bipartisan Paycheck Protection Program that Shaheen created as one of the lead negotiators for the small business provisions of the COVID relief package. To date, the PPP has provided more than $2.5 billion in relief for more than 24,000 small businesses across New Hampshire, helping keep over 200,000 Granite Staters on payroll.

“As the pandemic hit the U.S. economy, Jeanne Shaheen jumped into action, negotiating a small business package that made a difference for thousands of impacted New Hampshire small businesses,” said campaign manager Harrell Kirstein. “The Paycheck Protection Program helped more than 24,000 New Hampshire businesses stay open and keep more than 200,000 employees paid as the country faced one of the worst economic downturns in its history. Jeanne Shaheen is pushing for more resources because she knows how important small businesses are to their communities and to New Hampshire’s economy and that they are still hurting. Granite Staters can rely on Jeanne Shaheen to make a difference for them.”

As one of the four Senate negotiators, Senator Shaheen helped write the bipartisan small business response package, including the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), after the pandemic hit in March. PPP has kept 24,000 small businesses in New Hampshire afloat, helping ensure that more than 200,000 Granite Staters kept their jobs. Shaheen has been praised by Senate Democrats and Republicans for her work across the aisle to make a difference for communities across the country. She is continuing to push for a second round of PPP loans in future relief packages to help New Hampshire businesses who are still struggling.
