Manchester, N.H. – The latest radio ad from the Shaheen campaign features Kathy Cavallaro of Rye, New Hampshire who shares how Senator Jeanne Shaheen is fighting to lower health care costs and taking on the Wall Street companies who are profiting off surprise medical bills. One in six visits to New Hampshire emergency rooms ends in a surprise medical bill, even for people like Kathy who have health insurance. When Kathy was hit with an unexpected $5,000 medical bill after undergoing emergency surgery, she and her family turned to Senator Shaheen who helped lower the cost of the bill and has since led the fight in the Senate to end surprise medical bills. When Shaheen was targeted with a multi-million dollar ad campaign funded by Wall Street companies who wanted to stop her from working across the aisle to stop this dangerous practice, she said that she would not be intimidated.

“We don’t have an extra $5,000,” said Kathy Cavallaro in the ad. “We went to Jeanne Shaheen, and she got the bill reduced. She’s fighting against these surprise medical bills and the Wall Street companies that are behind a lot of them.”

“Jeanne Shaheen is a leader in the Senate advocating for more affordable health care and taking on the corporate special interests that are trying to disrupt commonsense solutions that would make a difference for New Hampshire families,” said campaign manager Harrell Kirstein. “She has worked across the aisle to stop Wall Street companies from exploiting Granite Staters who face significant health care challenges with surprise medical bills, stood up to the pharmaceutical companies to lower the cost of prescription drugs, and is fighting to protect the Affordable Care Act while Republicans in Washington work to repeal it and threaten protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Granite Staters can rely on Jeanne Shaheen to fight for them any time they call her, and she will continue to protect their health care.”

In the Senate, Jeanne Shaheen has fought to protect and expand access to quality, affordable health care, to lower prescription drug prices, and to stop surprise medical bills. When the Trump administration and Senate Republicans tried to repeal the ACA, Jeanne Shaheen led the bipartisan effort to block it, and she continues to fight against the Trump administration’s lawsuit to eliminate the ACA and the protections it provides for more than 500,000 Granite Staters with pre-existing conditions. She has also pushed for legislation to expand health care tax credits for the middle class and to lower insulin prices and has taken on the big drug companies to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices.
