Concord, N.H. – Today, Senator Jeanne Shaheen announced that she will oppose the Supreme Court nomination of Amy Coney Barrett at the NHPR debate, stating:

“There’s a lot on the line in this Supreme Court nomination. I don’t believe President Trump should have made the nomination. We are in the middle of an election. We should be waiting for the election to happen on November third.”

“Whoever the next president is should make the determination of who should be nominated to the Supreme Court. I have been very concerned about Justice Barrett’s positions on choice. She has had a clear record of opposing Roe v. Wade. She’s had a clear record in her writings opposing the Affordable Care Act which is so important to millions of people in America, thousands in New Hampshire. I heard some things this week in the questioning that made me very concerned. Her suggestion that Medicare might not be constitutional raised real concerns for me.”

“So I intend to vote against Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination when she comes before the Senate.”
