At today’s debate, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Corky Messner expressed support for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett, and lied about her record and what her confirmation would mean for millions of Americans.

Messner wholeheartedly supports Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett who would overturn the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Roe v. Wade, if confirmed.

• FACT: Amy Coney Barrett signed a newspaper ad calling the landmark Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade “barbaric” and does not think that judicial precedent applies to cases like Roe [Guardian, 10/1/20; New York Times, 9/26/20]

• FACT: Coney Barrett attacked the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the ACA as “illegitimate.” [Washington Post, 9/28/20]

• FACT: Coney Barrett has publicly opposed the ACA’s requirement that employers include access to birth control in their health benefits. [Washington Post, 9/28/20]

If Coney Barrett is confirmed and the ACA and Roe v. Wade are struck down:

• 105,000 Granite Staters, including 57,000 on Medicaid Expansion, would be kicked off their health care [Center for American Progress, 6/24/20; Kaiser Family Foundation, 06/2019]

• 572,000 New Hampshire residents with pre-existing conditions like diabetes, asthma, and cancer would lose health care protections in the ACA that stop insurance companies from discriminating against them and depriving them care. [Center for American Progress, 4/5/17]

• Women across the country would lose access to safe, legal abortion and comprehensive reproductive health care services. [Associated Press, 9/21/20]

• Insurance companies would be allowed to deny coverage birth control and long-acting reversible contraception, like IUDs and implants. [Center for American Progress, 10/6/17]
