At today’s debate, Republican U.S. Senate candidate “Colorado Corky” Messner lied about Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s record on abortion and pushed his dangerous anti-choice rhetoric that hurts Granite State women.
FACT: Throughout her career, Jeanne Shaheen has fought to protect a woman’s access to a full range of health care services.
-
Republicans are mischaracterizing abortions that save the lives of mothers facing severe fetal diagnoses, and infanticide is already clearly illegal under federal law.
-
Messner is embracing legislation that would send doctors to prison for providing medically necessary abortion care, and would significantly complicate options for medical procedures to save the life of the mother.
-
As Governor, Jeanne Shaheen repealed a law that made abortion a felony and signed legislation requiring insurance companies to cover birth control.
-
In the Senate, she has worked across the aisle to bolster women’s rights and helped lead opposition to partisan efforts aimed at overturning Roe vs. Wade.
According to the Union Leader, Messner is the most anti-abortion candidate Shaheen has ever faced in a campaign for federal office.
