Manchester, N.H. – Today, the New Hampshire AFL-CIO endorsed U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen for re-election at the annual Labor Day breakfast in Manchester. The NH AFL-CIO is the state’s largest labor federation, representing fifty affiliated local unions and 30,000 Granite State workers.
“New Hampshire’s economy depends on the strength of our workers, and I am honored to have the men and women of the NH AFL-CIO with me for my re-election campaign,” said Senator Shaheen. “My priority in the Senate has always been to make a difference for New Hampshire families by strengthening our economy and creating jobs and resources that support these Granite Staters. I am proud to stand with New Hampshire’s workers every day, and I will continue to work across the aisle to increase the minimum wage and provide resources for job training programs that strengthen our workforce.”
“This is the earliest any of us can remember endorsing a candidate, but when the President of the United States starts recruiting people to run against someone like Senator Shaheen, a dependable friend and ally for nearly thirty years, it gets our attention,” said NH AFL-CIO President Glenn Brackett.
In the Senate, Jeanne Shaheen has worked across the aisle to advocate for legislation and resources that bolster New Hampshire’s economy while making a difference for Granite State workers. She successfully protected funding and jobs for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, led a bipartisan effort to increase funding tenfold to help New Hampshire’s treatment centers and first responders address the opioid epidemic, helped pass legislation to give veterans more options for health care closer to home and has championed legislation that would expand technical and vocational training and apprenticeship programs so everyone can get the skills they need to get a good-paying job that can support a family.
